JUST IN: Ashantigold place injunction on 2022/23 betPawa Premier League kick off

Ashantigold SC have officially placed an injunction on the start of 2022-23 betPawa Premier League season, scheduled to kick off on September 10 following their demotion from the country’s top-tier competition.

AshantiGold and Inter Allies after a lengthy investigation were demoted to the lower division by the Ghana FA after both clubs were found guilty of engaging in match manipulation in the final game of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

The game ended 7-2 in favor of the Miners. After the game, Hashmin Musah of Allies revealed that he deliberately scored the two own goals to ruin a bet.

Players, coaches, and some officials of the two above-mentioned clubs were handed various sanctions by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana FA.

Earlier this month, the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) temporarily lifted respective bans placed on twenty-two (22) players from the two clubs.

However, AshantiGold SC, who are scheduled to play in the second division two has delieverd an injunction letter to the Ghana Football Association Secretary General on September 9, in protest against the decision of the GFA’s Disciplinary committee for an unlawful demotion from the Ghanaian top-flight league.

A Human Rights Court in Accra served the GFA with a court order restraining the FA from commencing the 2022-23 League competition without the participation or involvement of Ashantigold, the Plaintiff.

In an affidavit in support of the motion on notice for an order for an interlocutory injunction pending appeal, Ashantigold SC is praying an Accra High Court to halt the commencement of the betPawa Premier league until the final determination of the plaintiffs appeal.
