Jordan Ayew’s hat-trick elevates Ghana to the top of Group I in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers [+VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS]
1 min readJordan Ayew shone once again for the Black Stars on Monday night as Ghana defeated the Central African Republic (CAR) 4-3 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The Crystal Palace forward, who had come off the bench to score the winner in the previous match against Mali, was given a starting position as the West Africans faced the Wild Beasts in their fourth World Cup qualifier.
Fatawu Issahaku, also starting due to his strong previous performance, won a penalty for Ghana early in the game. Jordan Ayew converted it in the sixth minute, setting the stage for a high-scoring match at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium.
However, CAR responded with Louis Mafouta scoring twice in the 11th and 41st minutes, giving the visitors the lead at halftime.
The Black Stars responded after the break, with Jordan Ayew scoring from a well-delivered cross by Gideon Mensah at the hour mark. Two minutes later, Issahaku scored, and Jordan Ayew later secured the victory by scoring on a rebound after Mohammed Kudus’s shot was blocked.
CAR managed to score again with a powerful strike from Mafouta.
This victory puts Ghana at the top of Group I with nine points and continues their strong record at the Baba Yara Stadium, where they have only lost one World Cup qualifier.
