Asante Kotoko Acting Communications Director, David Obeng Nyarko has revealed that it was a tough decision the club had to make to sell star striker Kwame Opoku to USM Alger of Algeria.
Opoku after a short spell with the Porcupine Warriors was sold to the Algerian giants following his impressive start to the 2020/21 football season.
He netted 7 goals for the Reds in the Ghanaian top-flight before his departure.
David Obeng in an interview said it was a difficult decision to make looking at his output and the vision of the club’s management to build a formidable side.
“Let me tell you that it was a very difficult decision to sell Kwame. Very very difficult because Kwame was here for a very short time and we had to sell him.” Obeng Nyarko told Kumasi-based Fox FM.
“When the decision was finally made I remember we were returning from Obuasi and for about ten minutes there was a complete silence in the bus. No one was talking. It was such a difficult decision we had to make” he added.
Opoku scored in his official debut for USMA during a derby against MC Alger as USMA won 2-0.
