It feels very discouraging when we hear people insult us because we accepted to be Kotoko board members – Boateng Gemfi

Asante Kotoko board member, Mr. Kwadwo Boateng Genfi has expressed his displeasure with regards to how some media personnel and a section of the club’s fans ‘insult’ the board members of the club for no apparent reason.

He urged the Ghanaian media to be accurate, factual and truthful in their reportage in order not for the supporters to feed on the speculation they put out.

According to him, board appointment at Kotoko does not come with money as they don’t receive any sitting allowance as practice in the corporate world.

He said they have to run the club from their pockets and it is very discouraging to hear people insult them because of ‘fake news’ they hear on the radio.

“When you go on any board you’re paid allowances but Kotoko is not like that, ” Boateng Gemfi said in an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM.

“Kotoko is more or less a sacrificial work and  Otumfuo is the owner of the club. So he assigns you (board) to do the work for him.

“Therefore, you are there to serve Asante Kingdom, Kotoko, and the supporters. But there is incurred debt and the only option is to use our pocket money…So it feels very discouraging to hear insults from people.

“If you put in such huge money and people insult you like that, it’s very discouraging. You might be disappointed and tempted to quit. The sad thing is if you leave it for those insulting you they can’t do it.

“The people on the board have their integrity to protect. You hear people talk just like that, it’s very painful, ” he added.
