Bernard Dong Bortey has said that the management of his former Hearts of Oak does not understand the running of football after attending Asante Kotoko’s coronation match against Elmina Sharks.
Asante Kotoko legends were called to bring out the Premier League trophy onto the pitch and to the surprise of many, they were accompanied by Dong Bortey at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday night.
Regardless of all his deceptions to play for Kotoko in the early 2000s, the Kotoko fraternity gave him a prestigious arrival when he appeared for the biggest occasion.
According to Bortey, though he’s not a legend of Kotoko, he was given a special treatment by the fans at the stadium.
“I am not a legend of Asante Kotoko but they gave me a nice reception. I don’t think the current leaders of Hearts of Oak understand football. They don’t allow the old players to get closer to the team. I don’t think the current players know some of us” – Bernard Dong Bortey said in a interview with Pure FM.
“It’s a big honor for me to join Asante Kotoko ,I’m proud and I think I can add it to my Achievement that there was a day Kotoko won the league and they invited me to join them.
“I say it a big honor and you can choose to take it personal if you want because I’m done playing Hearts of Oak and now I’m a coach .
“Thank you Nana Yaw Amponsah ,Opoku Nti and all stakeholders for giving me this opportunity,” Bortey ended.
Dong Bortey has previously revealed his admiration for Asante Kotoko and hope to manage the club one day.
