‘GPL, FA Cup winners to get high quality medals’ – GFA

Ghana FA General Secretary, Prosper Harrison Addo has revealed that the nation’s football governing body will present medals of higher quality to this season’s Ghana Premier League champion.
In August 2021, majority of Ghanaian football fans and journalists registered their displeasure at the GFA for rewarding last season’s Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup champion Hearts of Oak with poor quality medals, they described as ‘key holders.’
Kotoko is on the verge of clinching the GPL title with 6 match-days to end the season. However, Fabulous fans have warned the Porcupine Warriors not to accept any poor quality medals from the GFA.
“With respect to the medals, we need to focus on continuous improvement so these medals will be improved upon,” Lawyer Harrison Addo told Accra based Angel FM.
Aggrieved stakeholders have argued that the financial reward for local clubs that win the GPL and MTN FA Cup is not commensurate to the investment made in participation, thus the GFA must at least present standard quality medals to make up for the short-falls.
The GFA hands out a cash reward of GHC 250,000 to the Ghana Premier League champion, while the MTN FA Cup winner is presented with GHC 80,000, totalling GHC 330,000.
