Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah has completed a permanent move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Tai.
The 28-year-old signed a two-plus-year contract with Al-Tai, reportedly earning around 1.7 million euros per season.
Mensah joins Al-Tai on a free transfer after declining to renew his contract with Kayserispor at the end of the 2022/23 season.
He began his European journey in 2012, joining Vitória Guimarães’ reserve team from Feyenoord Academy in Ghana. Mensah quickly impressed and was promoted to the senior team before securing a move to Spanish La Liga side Atletico Madrid.
However, he struggled to break into the Atletico Madrid first team and was subsequently loaned to Getafe, Vitória Guimarães, Kasimpasa, and later signed permanently with Kayserispor in 2019.
During his time in Turkey with Kasimpasa, Kayserispor, and loan spells at Besiktas, Mensah featured in 143 league games, scoring 24 goals and providing 23 assists.
Having retired from the Ghana national team in 2021, Mensah made five appearances for the Black Stars, scoring on his debut against Togo in 2015.
Mensah is the latest addition to the growing list of high-profile players who have moved to Saudi Arabia in recent years, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, Roberto Firmino, N’Golo Kante, Ruben Neves, and more.
