Black Stars head coach Charles Kwablan Akonnor says he was elated with the performance of Asante Kotoko right-back Christopher Nettey on his first-ever match for Ghana at the senior national team.
Nettey earned a late call-up to represent as replacement for America-based experienced defender Harrison Afful.
He earned praise from Akonnor during the post-match interview after an impressive debut on Thursday afternoon.
“It wasn’t the best of performance but I am very happy for what we have produced today. We kept a clean sheet and that’s the most important thing. We are expecting some players tonight who will join us for the return leg in Sudan.” Akonnor said after the game.
“There are a number of positives to pick from the game. A player like Nettey played for the first time and he did well. All he needs is another chance.” he added.
Nettey was substituted on the 68th minute by Nicholas Opoku.
Captain of the side, Andre Ayew handed Black Stars a 2-0 win over Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a sumptuous brace.
The reverse fixture will be played in Khartoum on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
Ghana lead the Group C with 9 points.
