GHALCA to organize Top 6 competition to accommodate Hearts of Oak

The GHALCA top 4 competition is set for a comeback on the Ghanaian football calender with six teams participating, unlike the usual 4 clubs, according to reports gathered by Kessben Sports.

The move is said to accommodate Hearts of Oak who failed to land a place among the top four teams to use the tournament to prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup competition.

The Phobians finished a distant sixth with 48 points in the just-ended 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) apparently have agreed with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to bring the competition back with four clubs participating but a further meeting has been held which will see the competition add 2 more teams to make it a 6-club competition for Accra Hearts of Oak to be among the competing clubs.

According to information gathered by Kessben Sports, a company which has agreed to sponsor the competition suggested to the organizers to make it a top 6 which will make Accra Hearts of Oak among the competing teams.

Some of the clubs are however not happy with the new arrangement by the organizers and are ready to seek redress at the law court.

In March 2003, GHALCA instituted the ‘Top Four’ competition for the top four finishers of the league but in December 2015 under the administration of Alhaji Ali Raji, it was extended to what came to be known as the ‘G6 Tournament’ and later ‘GHALCA G-8 Tournament.’
