Gary Cahill, a former Chelsea defender, has organized an auction for a jersey to raise funds to complete a school project in Ghana that was initiated by his late teammate, Christian Atsu.
Cahill, who is considered a Chelsea legend, posted on his Instagram story calling for bids on an old jersey to finance the construction of the educational facility in Atsu’s native country.
Atsu, who was an ambassador for the charity Arms Around the Child, passed away due to an earthquake in Turkey in February 2023.
In support of the cause, Chelsea FC also announced that they would be auctioning off jerseys worn during their match against Everton, among other items, with proceeds going to Arms Around the Child.
The auction, which includes signed shirts from the entire squad and memorabilia from club legends, will run until April 8th.
Atsu, who was a Chelsea player for five years, was laid to rest in his hometown of Ada on March 17, 2022. The charity will use the funds raised to complete the school that Atsu had begun building in Ghana.
