EPL: Brighton embarrasses Man United at Amex
1 min read
With a 4-0 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening, Manchester United’s season reached a new low.
Moises Caicedo scored after 15 minutes with a long-range strike that went through Victor Lindelof’s knees and past David de Gea.
Ralf Rangnick, United’s temporary manager, sent in Fred and Edinson Cavani in place of Nemanja Matic and Anthony Elanga, but it backfired.
After the half, the Seagulls kept on top and blitzed United with three goals in 11 minutes.
Marc Cucurella scored his first Premier League goal, and his reaction was extremely passionate.
Pascal Groß completed a nice play for Brighton’s third goal, before Leandro Trossard bundled home a fourth goal that was almost ruled out by VAR.
It’s United’s 11th loss of the season, therefore ending their prospects of finishing in the top four and so qualifying for the Champions League next season.
Only Leeds United have conceded more goals in the Premier League this season, with 54.
That means they’ve allowed in more than the relegated Norwich City and Watford.
Throughout the mauling, fans in the AMEX Stadium’s away end could be heard screaming, “You’re not fit to wear the shirt.”
Matic and Scott McTominay, in particular, were chastised for a poor performance in midfield.
