Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly expresses interest in Hearts of Oak talisman Daniel Afriyie Barnieh

Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC are reported to have contacted Hearts of Oak for the services of youngster Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, according to reports in the North African country. 

The contract of the former Ghana U-20 forward will expire at the end of this month, and the Ghanaian giants are sweating over whether to extend his stay. 

The 21-year-old is on the radar of several clubs in Africa and Europe following his involvement in Ghana’s World Cup in Qatar.

Barnieh made the Black Stars’ 26-man final squad list for the Mundial. It should be recalled that although he didn’t make any appearances at the World Cup, he was very impressive in Ghana’s last pre-World Cup game against Switzerland in Abu Dhabi, where Ghana secured a 2-0 win.

Al Ahly is reported to have been in contact with the Phobians over the possible transfer of the attacker, with negotiations already in place.

He is currently in camp with the Ghana national team, preparing for the upcoming CHAN tournament to be staged in Algeria next month. 

Barnieh was outstanding during the CHAN qualifications, netting three goals in four appearances against Benin and Nigeria.

Barnieh joined Hearts in July 2019 and has been an instrumental member of the team as he assisted them to win the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup in the 2020-21 season.

He was the captain when Ghana won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania last year.
