Corruption suspicions intensify as Kotoko-Hearts clash records 103% revenue increase

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that the Ghana Premier League match-day 24 top liner between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak on Sunday, recorded a 103% revenue increase from the sale of electronic tickets.

The confirmed increase in revenue annexed in the Super Clash in Kumasi, has heightened suspicions regarding possible corruption in previous matches involving Hearts and Kotoko, where printed tickets were sold at the gates.

A gross total of GHC591000, almost GHC600000, was realised from the sale of e-Tickets to 15965 fans in the second round El Clasico at the Baba Yara Stadium.

About 37,000 fans attended the first round Super Clash in Accra, yet the second round attendance of 15,965 strangely produce a 103% revenue increase.

“Asante Kotoko played Hearts of Oak and it was the second match where digital tickets were used. And, they got the highest revenue in any match between Hearts and Kotoko,” Bawumia said in his address at the launch of the National Youth Volunteer Program in Kumasi on Monday

“The increase in revenue was 103% above the last revenue in the last match,” he added.

The National Sports Authority has confirmed that arrangements are underway to use online tickets for the MTN FA Cup quarter final between Skyy FC and Hearts of Oak at the El Wak Stadium on Thursday.
