Christian Atsu nears Newcastle United exit as English side express interest

Ghana international Christian Atsu is set to finally bid his time at English premier league side, Newcastle as Nottingham Forest leads a pack of the clubs seeking the wingers signature.

The 28-year-old former Porto player has limited opportunities in recent times after being declared surplus to requirement by manager Steve Bruce.

Atsu is yet to stake a claim in the Newcastle set up following the signing of Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, and most Ryan Fraser they have struggled for fitness in recent months.

According to the Northern Echo, former Irish international Chris Hughton who has managed teams like Brighton and Hove Albion and Birmingham City has already initiated talks to take Christian Atsu to Forest.

With Atsu contract to end in this year June, the player will be available to talk with other clubs and possibly move this January transfer window in search for game time after being left out of the Newcastle’s 25-man squad for the 2020/21 English Premier League.

However, ChrIs Hughton has expressed readiness to also sign Matty Longstaff, another player who has also fallen out-of-favour with Steve Bruce at the st. James Park.

Atsu joined Chelsea from Porto before going on to have brief spells at Everton, Bournemouth, and Spanish La Liga side Malaga.


Other teams linked to the the winger includes Middleborough, Rangers and Celtic.
