Bruno Fernandes named Man Utd captain

Manchester United has officially named Bruno Fernandes as the club’s new captain, replacing former captain Harry Maguire.

The decision was made by manager Erik ten Hag, and Fernandes will now lead the team on a permanent basis.

The Portuguese midfielder has already worn the captain’s armband on several occasions, and his leadership qualities have been evident both on and off the pitch. As captain, Fernandes will continue to drive the highest standards throughout the squad as the club aims for success in the 2023/24 season and beyond.

Since joining Manchester United from Sporting in January 2020, Fernandes has become one of the team’s most reliable performers and prominent leaders. With 64 goals and 54 assists in 185 appearances, he has been a key player in the team’s successes.

Last season, alongside former captain Maguire, Fernandes played a pivotal role in the club’s triumph in the League Cup, ending a six-year trophy drought.

Fernandes is now the seventh captain of Manchester United in the last decade, following in the footsteps of Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, and Harry Maguire in the prestigious position.
