BREAKING: President Akuffo Addo Orders Sports Minister To Have Chelsea Star Callum Hudson-Odoi Switch Nationality To Play For Ghana
The President of the Republic of Ghana has ordered the country’s sports minister and other football authorities to commence the process of having England-born of Ghanaian descent switch nationality to play for the West African Country.
The President of Ghana His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged sports minister Mustapha Ussif and other football governing body to engage Chelsea Star Callum Hudson-Odoi over the possibility of switching nationality to play for the Senior national team, the Black Stars.
This comes after Hudson-odoi paid a courtesy call onto president Akufo-Addo at the jubilee house, the seat of the nation’s presidency, where the player presented a customized Chelsea jersey to the president.
A statement from the president reads;
“On Monday, 7th June 2021, Ghanaian-born Chelsea footballer, Callum Hudson-Odoi, paid a courtesy call on me at Jubilee House, the seat of our nation’s presidency,” President Akufo-Addo wrote on Monday night.
“Amongst others, I urged the Minister for Youth and Sports to explore the possibility of having Callum switch nationality, and play for the Black Stars.”
Hudson-odoi has been a long-term target for the Ghana Football Association for possible nationality switch albeit featuring three times for the three lions of England at the senior level.
Hudson-Odoi was born by Ghanaian parents. His father, Bismark Odoi, featured for Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak.
Hudson-odoi is still eligible to play for the Black Stars per the new FIFA eligibility rules for playing below age 21.
Hudson-Odoi was part of the Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League team, where he [Hudson-odoi] registered two goals in the UCL campaign.
