Black Stars beat Legon Cities in friendly game

The Black Stars defeated Ghana Premier League outfit Legon Cities 3-1 in a friendly encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars as part of their preparations for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against South Africa and Soa Tome later this month took on the premier league side in an exhibition game.

Manager CK Akonnor handed starting role to Eric Ofori Antwi, Philemon Baffour, Ibrahim Imoro, Jamaldeen Harun, Ismail Ganiyu, Mubarak Wakaso, Rashid Nortey, Salifu Moro, Gladson Awako and Kwame Poku.

The Black Stars after dominating the opening minutes of the game and coming close through Rashid Nortey opened the scoring in the 25th minute, Kwame Poku scored from close range.

CK Akonnor at the start of the second half made some few changes to the team, the likes of Joseph Esso, Dennis Korsah and Justice Blay came on.

Black Stars made it 2-0 just minutes into the second half through Mubarak Wakaso.

Right after conceding the second goal, Legon Cities manager Bashir Hayford made a number of changes, with Ghana’a all time scorer Asamoah Gyan amongst the player’s who came on.

The lead was extended in the 60th minute, Moro Salifu headed in a pass from Mubarak Wakaso to make it 3-0.

Asamoah Gyan’s substitution brought life into the Legon Cities team as they started to dominate the game.

The Royals pulled one back in the 80th minute through Asamoah Gyan from the spot as the game ended 3-1.

The Black Stars will continue camping in Accra as preparations for the AFCON qualifiers against Sudan and Soa Tome continues.

CK Akonnor is expected to augment the team with a number of foreign based players in the coming days.

Ghana will play South Africa on Thursday, March 25 at FNB Stadium in South Africa before hosting Soa Tome on Tuesday, March 30 in Accra.

The Black Stars currently sit top of Group C with 9 points from 4 games. The West African giants need just a point in the aforementioned games to secure a place at the 2022 AFCON to be staged in Cameroon.
