Black Satellites depart Ghana for Niger with 20 players for WAFU Cup

Head Coach of the Black Satellites (Male U-20), Karim Zito has named a 20-man squad to represent Ghana at the 2022 WAFU Zone B Cup of Nations to be played in Niamey, Niger.
The team departed Ghana earlier today for the competition which serves as qualifiers for the U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In the squad are Premier League players; Gregory Sekyre (Berekum Chelsea), Nana Yeboah (Hearts of Oak), Vincent Anane (Legon Cities), Augustine Agyapong (Asante Kotoko), Collins Boah (Dreams FC), Kwabena Gogoe (Dreams), Zubeiru Ibrahim (King Faisal), Jonas Adjeitey (Berekum Chelsea), Emmanuel Annor (Bechem United).

Heart of Lions players Mustapha Yakubu and Razak Abdallah also made the squad. There’s also a place in the squad for Division One Zone One top scorer Mohammed Yahaya (Tamale City).
The Black Satellites had been in preparation for the WAFU for months in Prampram and were involved in high profile friendly games, beating Golden Kick 4-1, Tema Youth 2-1, Euro Africa 1-0 and Heart of Lions 2-0.
Satellites will go into the competition as defending champions having come from behind to beat Burkina Faso 2-1 at the Stade Charles De Gaulles in Porto Novo, Benin two years ago.

Ghana have been pitted in Group B and will open their campaign against Nigeria on Sunday, May 8, before playing Burkina Faso in the final group game on Saturday, May 14. Both games will be played at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché.
Host nation Niger were drawn in Group A with Togo, Cote D’ivoire and Benin.
The biennial tournament which serves as
qualifiers for the U-20 AFCON will be held in Niamey, Niger from Saturday, May 7 to Friday, May 20, 2022.
The finalists will secure a place at the U-20 AFCON to be played in Egypt between 18 February to 12 March.
