BGC vs Salt n Pepper headlines T20 Cricket League Week 2

BGC’s triumph over Salt n Pepper in the ‘President’s Invitational T20 League’, became the highlight of week 2, in the 4 matches played at the Achimota Cricket ovals on Sunday, June 6, 2021.

Organized by the Ghana Cricket Association (GCA), the 2021 edition of the single round-robin league saw BGC score 156/7 in the 1st innings on Oval A.

Salt n Pepper’s 2nd innings looked so possible for a win after the 10th over, as they kept getting more than 6 runs per over.

They had scored 106/3 in the 14th over, and 130/5 in the 17th over, with much effort from Kofi Bagabena, who recorded 5 boundaries 4’s.

Bagabena’s game was wrapped up with a score of 47/37, after his attempt for another boundary was caught by Karan Singh Bhatia, on the 20th over, a ball bowled by Hassan Ali Shah which could’ve given Salt n Pepper that famous victory.

It was all joy for BGC, as they managed to restrict Salt n Pepper to 154/7, thereby winning by 2 runs.

BGC’s Devender Signh Malik was adjudged Man of the Match with his impressive 60/38 balls (which included 2 4’s and 6 6’s), having spent 58 minutes in the game, with a striking rate of 157.89. He also took 2/36 in 4 overs with an economy rate of 9.00.

Also, in the morning and on Oval B, Ras Bingi Cricket Club couldn’t stand the prowers of CSK Cricket Club. CSK scored 221/6 in the first innings and won by 179 runs, as Ras Bingi could only manage 42/10 in 12.4 overs.

Sam Michael Merbin of CSK, was adjudged player of the Match. He scored 62 runs off 28 balls, with 7 4’s and 3 6’s and a striking rate of 221.43. He also took 1 wicket, gave away 7 runs in 4 overs, with 2 maidens and an economy rate of 1.75.

The afternoon matches also saw Supreme CC taking the lead on Oval B with 124/6 and winning by 32 runs after Karizma had scored 92/10 in 17.1 over. James Vifah won the Man of the Match Accolade with a score of 46/40. He took 4/20 in 4 overs as well.

Supreme CC are joint leaders with BGC with 4 points but with an NRR of 1.054 for the former, as both won their first week matches.

Defenders Cricket Club were 5 runs victors over MMG in the last match of the day, with 104/10 in 17.4 overs and 99/10 in 18.2 overs respectively.

Aziz Sualley won the Man of the Match, having taken 4 wickets, given away 26 balls in 4 overs. He also scored 18 runs, off 15 balls.

Week 3 matches come up on Sunday, June 13 at the Achimota Ovals in Accra.
