The Porcupine Warriors traveled to Accra with the goal of bringing the trophy back to Kumasi, and they succeeded after a hard-fought match at Accra Sports Stadium.
Head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum selected an exciting starting eleven, featuring some new signings, who performed strongly throughout the game.
Asante Kotoko took the lead in the 30th minute when Justice Blay converted a penalty, giving them the advantage at halftime.
Hearts of Oak quickly equalized early in the second half with a controversial header from Asamoah Boateng Afriyie, which caused a medical scare for Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare.
In the end, Asante Kotoko secured victory with a fantastic goal from Peter Amidu, clinching the Democracy Cup.
