Asante Kotoko complete the signing of Al Hilal defender Abdul Hamid Mohammed

1 min read

Asante Kotoko has announced the signing of promising Sudanese defender Esmat Abdulhamid Mohamed from Al Hilal on a season-long loan with an option to buy.

The 21-year-old left-back, well-regarded in Sudanese football, signed his contract with the Porcupines after passing a mandatory medical examination on Saturday.

Abdulhamid’s move to Kotoko comes highly recommended by Sudan’s national coach and Kotoko’s technical director, Kwesi Appiah.

Having risen through the ranks at Al Hilal Omdurman, Abdulhamid gained valuable experience at Al Falah SC during the 2022/23 season, where he played in over 20 matches.

The young defender has also been called up to Sudan’s senior national team, making his arrival at Kotoko a significant acquisition for the Ghanaian club.

Abdulhamid’s signing is part of Kotoko’s rebuilding efforts following the release of 21 players, including Kalo Ouattara, Nicholas Osei Bonsu, and Isaac Oppong, among others.

This recent roster overhaul was in response to Kotoko’s disappointing sixth-place finish in the Ghana Premier League, where they failed to win the 2023/24 title and ended the season without any trophies.

With Abdulhamid’s addition, Kotoko aims to become more competitive in the league and strengthen their squad for the upcoming season.
