Alhaji Gruzah blasts Asante Kotoko for “uncivilized” jersey design for 2022/23 season

1 min read

King Faisal bankroller Alhaji Karim Gruzah has criticized Asante Kotoko’s management for using the image of the club’s Life Patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in their kits for the 2022/23 season.

The club chief says it is “uncivilized” to print His Royal Majesty’s picture in a jersey.

Kotoko released their new jerseys for the upcoming season via social media and it has gained positive reactions from the fans and some Ghanaian football lovers.

But for Gruzah, who spoke in an interview with Kessben TV, the initiative is appaling to the status of the Asantehene.

‘It’s uncivilized to have put Otumfuo on the Kotoko jersey. In fact, it’s a village thing. Otumfuo is more than that.

“Otumfuo does not go to war and lose. Maybe these Ashantis don’t know how Otumfuo is valued. Who does not know Otumfuo is the owner of the club?

Gruzah continued: “Which team does that in the world? We put sponsors on jerseys. This is not maturity, they’ve already done it but they can go back and change.”

The club is currently preparing for their pre-season tour in Turkey ahead of the 2022/23 football campaign.
