Akufo-Addo – “It is difficult for Ghana football to succeed unless Kotoko succeeds”

President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, has stated unequivocally that the success of football in the country hinges on the success of giants Asante Kotoko.

The president, who has not hidden his admiration for the Porcupine Warriors believes that when the Ghana Premier League record winners succeed it accelerates the success rate of the entire sport in the country.

He asserted when the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko, Nana Yaw Amponsah and his entourage paid a courtesy call on the sitting president a day before the Porcupine Warriors kick start their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League campaign against Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Accra Sports stadium.

“It is difficult for Ghana football to succeed unless Kotoko succeeds. That’s how it has been in the past and that’s how it should be in the future” the president said as quoted by Kumasi-based media outlet Oyerepa FM.

“Kotoko a very special, cherished and enviable role in Ghanaian Sports development,” he eulogized the Porcupine Warriors.

The current government, are looking at diverse ways of enhancing the development of the nation via sports through the building of sports facilities and intend to cushion football clubs which will be featuring in continental football to raise the flag of the nation high.

“Clearly it’s possible the Government should be able to assist the club, these will be temporary measures over a period of time, a year or two. Ultimately the club should be self-sufficient, generating money for keeping the club going,”

He continued: “We will put our heads together to see what can be done to assist, through the minister of sports,”

“I think it’s in the interest of Ghana to have a strong participation to fly the flag of Ghana.”

Asante Kotoko SC will represent Ghana in the upcoming CAF Champions League.
