The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt E.S Okraku has stated emphatically that Ghana has been given the nod to host the 2027 Africa Youth Championship.

“2027 AFCON U-20 Boys to be hosted by Ghana” was a confirmation by GFA President on his Facebook wall.

Ghana has gotten the chance to host many major Africa competitions both at the senior and junior level.

During the 1963 and 1978 Africa Cup of Nations, Ghana hosted both tournaments and the Black Stars successfully won them.

Twenty seven years down the line after conquering the 1978 edition, Ghana co-hosted the AFCON together with the West Africa neighbours, Nigeria in the year 2000. The Black Stars were shown the exit this time round at the quarter finals by South Africa.

Eight years later in 2008, Ghana once again won the bid to single handedly host the AFCON. The Black Stars came third in this competition.

The last time Ghana hosted most countries from the continent was 2023 during the All Africa Games.

Both Black Satellites and Black Princesses truimped in their respective competitions.

The country will have the chance to host the 2027 U-20 AFCON. It is a great opportunity for Coach Desmond Offei and his team to prove their worth to the continent.

It may be recalled that Ghana hosted the 1999 edition and won it by skipper Hamza Mohammed and his teammates.

It took another stupendous show by Coach Sellas Tetteh and his U-20 team to conquer both Africa and the world in 2009.

Ghanaians will definitely expect similar feat from Black Satellites in 2027 as they go by the slogan “host and win”.
