“Ibrahim Tanko doesn’t receive monthly salary as Black Meteors coach” – Frederick Acheampong reveals

Contrary to popular belief, Black Meteors coach Ibrahim Tanko does not receive a monthly salary, according to Frederick Acheampong, the chairman of the team’s management committee.
Tanko, who led the team in 2019 during their failed Olympic Games qualification campaign, was once again entrusted with the task of achieving better results in the ongoing AFCON tournament in Morocco. However, the team’s elimination in the group stage has raised concerns about their commitment and integrity.
Speaking on the 3FM show Sports Ultras, Acheampong clarified that Tanko, like national team players, does not receive a salary but rather allowances and bonuses.
“No, Ibrahim Tanko doesn’t receive a salary for coaching the Black Meteors. He works for his club, so just like the footballers who play for the national team, they earn per diem based on the number of days they spend in camp. They are also paid winning bonuses when they win a match,” Acheampong explained.
He dismissed claims that the absence of a monthly salary could influence the coach, stating, “I’ve known Tanko for many years, and I trust his integrity. He is someone who cannot be influenced by money, even without receiving a monthly salary.”
Ghana’s failure to qualify for the next Olympic Games due to their early exit from the AFCON means their wait to participate in the quadrennial event will be extended to at least 24 years, as they last competed in 2004.
