“The target is to qualify for AFCON 2023 and do well” – Ghana coach Chris Hughton
1 min readDuring his unveiling, Chris Hughton, the head coach of the Black Stars, announced that their main objective is to qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, despite admitting that he cannot guarantee a trophy.
On March 23rd, Ghana, a four-time African champion, will play against Angola in the third match of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Kumasi, followed by a return fixture in Luanda three days later.
Hughton and his team have been training since last Monday, and they held their final session at the match venue with a full squad. Ghana must win both matches against Angola, who are currently tied on four points each, to improve their chances of qualifying.
The former manager of Newcastle United stated that their primary goal is to qualify for the AFCON, as they have done for over a decade, and that they will strive to perform excellently this time around. “Our objective is to qualify for AFCON and perform well,” Hughton stated during a pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
