Stephen Amankona is not playing at the level of Asante Kotoko – Prosper Narteh insists

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has fired forward Stephen Amankona after his difficult start to life at the club.
Amankona joined the Reds on a three-year deal from Berekum Chelsea this summer and was expected to play a key role in Kotoko’s quest to snatch the league trophy from rivals Hearts of Oak.
The nimble-footed player enjoyed a remarkable 2020-21 campaign with the Bibires, scoring 15 goals in all competitions, coupled with 7 assists, alongside three man-of-the-match awards in the GPL before moving to Kumasi.
He has featured in 10 games out of 23 for the Porcupines and his performances are not convincing, and some fans are getting impatient, though it is early days yet.
Many thought the 21-year-old would arrive and immediately start scoring goals just as he did in his time at Chelsea, and that they would get the opportunity to witness those wonderful skills but that’s not happening and he is slowing.
However, his head coach Prosper Narteh has warned the former Ghana U-20 star of the need to raise his level to start featuring in games.
“Amankona is trying to get to the level we expect him to play, if you don’t play at the level that we all expect you to play, then that is it. This is Kumasi Asante Kotoko and this is a team we compare to the likes of Al Ahly, Zamalek, Esperance, they are playing in the Champions League. Look at the quality of players there so if you don’t get to that level, that is it,” Ogum said at the Post-match presser after the King Faisal win.
Amankona since his big money move to Asante Kotoko has played 10 games (739 minutes) with no goal scored yet but have provided an assist.
