The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League kick-started over the weekend with some intriguing games on matchday one across the venues.

Record winners Asante Kotoko commenced the season on high as they secured a slender 1-0 victory over Karela United at the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex in Nalerigu. New striker Albert Amoah bagged his debut goal for the Porcupine Warriors in the 35th minute, with a ferocious shot outside the 6-yard box, which struck the crossbar before crossing the goalline

At the Accra Sports Stadium, giants Hearts Of Oak had a difficult start once again as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to newly-promoted outfit Basake Holy Stars. A second-minute close-range diving header by Prince Tweneboah handed the visitors their first-ever Premier League win.

Gold Stars started the season with a 2-1 victory over Legon Cities at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani. Samuel Atta Kumi opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, and the Miners held on to finish the first half. Immediately after recess, Legon Cities pulled parity through Dennis Adoma. But Gideon AnaAc’s 72nd minute goal handed coach Primpong Manso’s charges all three points.

Nsoatreman FC picked a 2-0 win over debutant Young Apostles. Mohammed Abdul Rahman and Collins Kofi Cudjoe scored a goal each in each half to secure the victory.

Aduana FC left it late to pick a point at home following a 1-1 stalemate with Heart Of Lions. Mustapha Yakubu scored on the 80th minute for the visitors before Emmanuel Marfo leveled in injury time.

Nations FC and Bechem United shared the spoils at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex.

On Saturday afternoon, holders Samartex FC and Dreams FC also played a 0-0 stalemate at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Newcomers Vision FC were held to a 0-0 stalemate at home by former champions Berekum Chelsea.

Bernardino Tetteh’s spot kick landed Medeama SC 1-0 victory overAccra Lions in the late kickoff at the new tnA Sports Stadium in Tarkwa.
