19-year-old German-born Jamie Leweling earns maiden Ghana call-up for Sudan showdown

German-born of Ghanaian descent Jamie Leweling has been handed his first-ever invitation to the senior national team of Ghana – Black Stars.

Ghana coach CK Akonnir named the talented midfielder in his 23-man squad for Ghana’s next month’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers doubleheader against Sudan on Friday.

The 19-year-old currently plays for German Bundesliga II club Greuther Fürth.

He has so far made six outings with an assist for the second-tier side.

Leweling was born to a Ghanaian father and a German mother which quality him eligible to represent any of the two countries.

He featured for German at the U-19 and U-20 levels.

Leweling joined Greuther Fürth at age 16 from FC Nurnberg on a free transfer.

He made his professional debut for Greuther Fürth in the Bundesliga II on 28 July 2019, coming on as a substitute in the 85th minute for Tobias Mohr in the home match against Erzgebirge Aue.
