Thomas Partey granted bail on rape and sexual assault charges

Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being charged with multiple sexual offences.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, facing five counts of rape involving two women, and one count of sexual assault against a third. The alleged incidents took place between 2021 and 2022 while Partey was playing for Arsenal.
He was charged days after his contract with the club expired at the end of June.
Partey confirmed his name and acknowledged his bail terms in court, which prevent him from contacting the complainants and require him to notify police of any travel or change of address.
The case follows an investigation launched in February 2022.
Partey, who joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020, is due to appear at the Old Bailey on 2 September. His lawyer says he strongly denies all charges and intends to clear his name.
