According to reports in the local media, former Black Stars goalkeeper Adam Larsen Kwarasey will be returning to the senior national team as the new goalkeeper’s coach.
Kwarasey, who is 35 years old, played professional football for 13 years, starting with Strømsgodset in 2007 and ending his career in 2020 after a three-year spell with Vålerenga.
The appointment comes as part of a technical team overhaul by the new head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton. Veteran goalie Richard Kingston has been asked to step aside as the goalkeeper’s trainer, and Kwarasey has reportedly been contacted and is expected to arrive in Ghana soon to assume the role.
Kwarasey, who was born in Norway but has Ghanaian heritage, made his debut for the Black Stars in 2011 against Swaziland in the 2012 AFCON qualifiers. He later became the first-choice goalkeeper for Ghana in the 2012 AFCON in Gabon/Equatorial Guinea but lost his spot to Fatawu Dauda at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The Black Stars are set to regroup in a few weeks to prepare for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers, where they will face Angola in a double-header later this month.
