Injury-time penalty hands AshantiGold victory over Hearts Of Oak

A late penalty nicely converted by Amos Addai handed AshantiGold their first win against Hearts of Oak at the Len Clay Sports Stadium in almost a decade.

The visitors enjoyed possession at the early stages of the duel, and the Phobians were awarded a penalty to take the lead, but Victor Aidoo’s kick was met with an impressive save by goalkeeper Kofi Mensah.

AshantiGold seeing the danger stepped up their game and controlled the pace.

They came close to scoring l when Kusi Brooklyn met a good cross from Samed Mohammed but the former Asokwa Deportivo forward failed to find the back of the net.

The Miners continued to dominate the game and came close again in the 73rd minute.

AshantiGold’s effort was finally paid off when they were presented with a penalty after Mohammed Fatawu handled the ball in the box, Amos Addai stepped up and converted the penalty to steal all 3 points for the Miners to have not beaten Hearts at the venue since 2013.

The 1-0 victory lifts AshantiGold to 6th on the league table with 26 points after 19 games, whiles Hearts of Oak remain in 4th position with 30 points after 19 games.
