Ibrahim Tanko opens up on his move to Borussia Dortmund

Former Dortmund forward, Ibrahim Tanko has disclosed ho we the German giants secured his services while pursuing his Senior High School education in Kumasi.
As a football inclined young chap, Tanko decided to pursue a career in football and was started with State Envoys, a Kumasi-based Colts club, from 1984.
He moved to Ghana Premier League outfit King Faisal Football Club in 1990 and played there until 1993 when he joined the youth side of German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the 1993/94 season.
Speaking to Accra-based Angel FM, Tanko – a former Ghana and Cameroon assistant trainer – revealed that he had to halt his education for his football career when he had the opportunity to move abroad.
“I was in Secondary School at Okess when I got the deal to move to Dortmund in Germany. The club wanted a young striker from Africa and I got recommended so I had to abandon High school education to move abroad”- Ibrahim Tanko on Angel TV.
Tanko spent seven years with Dortmund before moving to another reputable club, SC Freiburg, where he played for six seasons from 2001-2007.
Ibrahim Tanko won 20 caps for the Senior National Team of Ghana (Black Stars), featuring in the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa where Ghana finished fourth.
He chalked a lot of successes in his football career winning the German Bundesliga twice with Borussia Dortmund.
The UEFA license A holder currently works with Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions as technical director.
