‘I could’ve won World Cup with 2010 Black Stars squad’ – Kwesi Appiah

Former Ghana Coach Kwesi Appiah insists he could have led the Black Stars squad of 2010 to win the World Cup in South Africa, if he was the Head Coach.
The 61-year-old served as the Assistant Coach to Milovan Rajevac, when the Black Stars achieved a quarter final finish at the 2010 World Cup following a painful defeat to Uruguay.
However, the ex-Khartoum SC Coach became the first black African Head Coach to lead a national team to the World Cup in 2013 when he masterminded the Black Stars qualification but he could only manage a group stage finish with Ghana at the Brazil 2014 tournament.

Despite this failure, the former Asante Kotoko defender is convinced he could have supervised a World Cup triumph in South Africa if he was the Head Coach of the 2010 Black Stars squad, stating that team had cohesion and quality.
“If I was the Coach of the 2010 squad now, maybe I can boldly say I am going to win the World Cup because that team had been there for about five or six years, so the consistency was there but it’s not like now. The quality of players you have at a particular time determine how much you can achieve as a Coach,” Coach Appiah told Betty Yawson on Untold Stories TV GH, a Sports bias YouTube Channel.

The 1982 Africa Cup of Nations winner has been working as the Head Coach of Kenpong Football Academy since his appointment in July 2021.
