Hearts of Oak close to appointing Dutch trainer Martin Koopman as new head coach

Dutch coach Martin Koopman is poised to take the reins as the head coach of Hearts of Oak.

The club has encountered challenges in recent weeks while searching for a permanent coach following the departure of Serbian trainer Slavko Matic last season.

Despite attempting to secure the services of Nigerian coach Paul Aigbogun and Tunisia coach Khalil Abid, both endeavors fell through for the 2000 CAF Champions League winners.

According to a report from Africa-foot.com, Hearts of Oak has now chosen Dutch trainer Martin Koopman to lead the team. Koopman, a former Netherlands defender with experience at Go Ahead Eagles, FC Twente, and Cambuur, is anticipated to arrive in Ghana on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, to finalize his appointment before the commencement of the upcoming 2023/24 season next month.

Reportedly, the Technical Director of the club, Rene Hiddink, recommended Koopman for the position. Koopman’s diverse managerial journey includes roles as a youth team and assistant coach at Go Ahead Eagles and Cambuur, as well as positions at FC Groningen, FC Den Bosch, Veendam, AS Vita Club, Saudi Arabia, Shenyang Ginde, Roda JC, RKC Waalwijk, Aruba, and most recently the Maldives, all in assistant coaching capacities.
