‘He was always able to produce magic’ – FIFA hails Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan after retirement

The World Football governing body, FIFA, has applauded Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan after he announced his retirement from football.
Gyan, former Black Stars captain on Tuesday 20th June, 2023 declared his retirement from football.
The 37-year-old announced his decision official at the African Export-Import Bank’s (Afreximbank) 30th annual meeting in Accra.
Gyan remains Ghana’s all time leading scorer with 51 goals from 109 appearances for the Black Stars.
He is the first Ghanaian to score at the World Cup.
Gyan is also Africa’s highest scorer at World Cup with 6 goals.
He was the first player in football history to score in 9 consecutive major international tournaments.
Gyan was voted 2010 BBC African Player of the Year after an impressive display at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
When he first left Ghana in 2003, he joined Italian Serie A fold Udinese, where he spent two seasons out on loan at lower division side Modena.
He was transferred to French outfit Stade Rennes in 2008 and left the Ligue club for then English Premier League side Sunderland after a fine performance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa
His career has also seen him play for Al Ain and Ahli Dubai in the UAE, Shanghai SIPG in China and Kayserispor in Turkey.
