The Government of Ghana will fully cover the charges of the National Sports Authority(NSA) for the usage of the various stadia by Ghana Premier League clubs for the upcoming season 2020-21 football season.
This follows after the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) directed that all sporting events be honoured behind closed doors due to the increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country.
Currently, Ghana’s confirmed active cases are 1541, and 320 deaths.
Before this directive, the president of the land, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had agreed that 25% of fans would be allowed into each stadium.
But the MOYS indicated that the decision – which will affect the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League – is in-line with the recent COVID-19 protocol released by the Confederation of African Football to organise football matches without spectators in the stands.
However, speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM, the Director-General of the NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi disclosed that government has absorbed all charges for the usage of the various facilities by clubs in the country.
“Government of Ghana has absorbed the charges of the National Sports Authority for the usage of the various stadia after Ministry of Youth and Sports directed no spectators at Ghana Premier League Centres, ” Prof Peter Twumasi said on Oyerepa FM.
The Ghanaian top-flight will commence on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
