Erling Haaland scoops Premier League Player and Young Player of the Season awards

In a historic achievement, Erling Haaland of Manchester City has become the first player ever to win both the Premier League Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards in the same season.

The 22-year-old prolific striker’s remarkable tally of 36 goals shattered the Premier League record for the most goals scored in a single season. Over the course of the campaign, he has found the back of the net an impressive 52 times.

Expressing his gratitude, Haaland said, “I am deeply honored to be the first player to receive both of these awards in the same season. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for me.”

Haaland, who received the highest combined votes from the public and a Premier League panel, joined Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund last summer and has played a crucial role in the club’s triumphant journey to a third consecutive Premier League title.

Adding to his list of accolades, he was recently named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year.

Reflecting on his outstanding debut season in the Premier League, the Norwegian international said, “It has been an incredible experience, and lifting the trophy last weekend at the Etihad in front of our passionate fans was an immensely special moment for me.”

Manchester City is now in contention for a historic Treble, as they are set to face Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3 and lock horns with Inter Milan in the highly anticipated Champions League final on June 10.

Acknowledging the collective effort that led to his success, Haaland expressed his gratitude, saying, “These awards would not have been possible without my incredible teammates, the manager, and the entire staff at the club, who have been instrumental in helping me perform at my best.”

With two more finals to go, Haaland and Manchester City are determined to finish the season on a high note, aiming to secure victory in both the FA Cup final and the Champions League final.
