Don’t just invite local players, give them the chance to play – Dong Bortey to Otto Addo

Former Accra Hearts of Oak player, Bernard Dong Bortey has reacted after Ghana Coach Otto Addo announced a 33-man squad for the AFCON 2023 Qualifiers.

The squad includes 2 local players from the Ghana premier league, Augustine Okrah of Becehem United and Accra Hearts of Oak’s Afriyie Barnieh.

Dong Bortey Speaking on Kessben FM’S Extra Time said it has been a norm in Ghana where local players are invited to the senior national team and only sit at the bench during games.

The former Hearts of Oak player urged the head coach of the Black Stars to do away with the norm of benching local players.

According to him, Afriyie Barnieh has the capabilities to start for the Black Stars therefore must be given the opportunity to start in the games.
