Black Stars boss Chris Hughton hails 'trusted' backroom staff

The head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton, expressed his contentment with the quality of his backroom staff, which he believes makes his work easier.

Hughton, the former manager of Brighton and Hove Albion, was announced as the head coach for the Black Stars last month.

He was joined by assistant coaches George Boateng and Masud Didi Dramani, and Dreams FC General Manager Ameenu Shardow, who replaced Henry Martey as Team Manager. Former goalkeeper Richard Kingson retained his position as goalkeeper’s trainer.

Hughton told SuperSport that he has a reliable backroom staff, which he finds invaluable to his work. He believes that having trustworthy people around him is crucial to success, and he is confident that he has found that in his current team.

“I have a good backroom staff because if you have a good backroom staff, it makes your work far easier but you would need to have the right people around. People you value and you can trust and I believe that is what I have got,” he told SuperSport.

Hughton also praised the Ghana Football Association for their transparency and their commitment to supporting him.

“My dealings with the Ghana Football Association have been good, very open and honest and they have assured me of the support.”

In his first two matches, Hughton guided the Black Stars to a narrow win at the Baba Yara Stadium before securing a 1-1 draw against Angola in Luanda.

As a result, the team maintained their first position in Group E of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers with eight points after four matches. If they win either of their last two games against Madagascar or the Central African Republic, Ghana will secure a place in the next AFCON.
