‘Baffour is the Pillar behind my Success’ – Asamoah Gyan reveals at Book Launch

2 min read

Ex-Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed that his elder brother and former Ghana striker Baffour Gyan has been the unsung hero and pillar behind the success he’s achieved so far in his football career over the past 18 years.

An emotional Asamoah Gyan wept at the launch of his Autobiography ‘LeGyandary’ on Saturday night at the Kempiski Gold Coast Hotel in Accra, as he hailed the impact of the ex-Dynamo Moscow striker on his career through the key role he played behind the scenes.

“When I started, nobody knew who Asamoah Gyan was. It got to a time, they knew it and with the support of my brother, who I always mention. I’m very emotional right now but he is the key,” Gyan said at the Book Launch.

“He is the one behind my success. Sometimes criticisms come and people blame him for being a bad influence but they don’t know what he has done behind the scenes. I’m the one who knows it. Right now I would like to thank everybody who devoted their time, all the dignitaries around, my friends, my fans and my critics,” the former Rennes and Sunderland striker added.

The 2010 BBC African Footballer of the Year award winner, who is yet to retire from professional football, is still Ghana’s all time leading goalscorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances.

The 350-page Autobiography titled LeGyandary, was launched by Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo and was purchased at GHC 100,000 by Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong and Special Ice CEO, Ernest Ofori Sarpong among other top spenders like Business Mogul Freedom Jacob Caesar and Ghana FA Boss Kurt Okraku, who procured it for GHC 50,000. Proceeds from the Book sale will go to the Asamoah Gyan Foundation.

The event brought together dignitaries including politicians, businessmen and retired footballers.
