Ashantigold SC legends petition Ghana FA to review decision to demote the club

Ashanti Gold SC legends have petitioned the Ghana FA to review their decision to demote the club for playing a match of convenience with Inter Allies last season.

In a statement released by the club on October 6, 2022, the legends led by Tony Baffoe stated that the decision by the DC is not coherent with the evidence gathered for the investigation.

The legends stated categorically that they are dissatisfied with the decision of the DC to demote the club and have asked the GFA revisit their decision on the alleged match fixing case and act in the positive interest of the Association and its members in accordance with the appropriate rules and regulations of the Association, as well as, subsequently lift all suspensions and restore the Miners to its original status as an integral member of the Association.

The executive council of Ghana’s football ruling body had unanimously agreed to suspend the four-time Ghanaian champions as a result of their dealings with banned officials Kwaku Frimpong and Emmanuel Frimpong – which they claimed constituted a serious violation of GFA and Fifa Statutes. However, the Miners took the case to the Human Rights High Court and have placed an injunction on the Betpawa Premier League season until the case is heard.
