Another Big Test For Black Stars Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

If everything goes according to plan, the Black Stars of Ghana will engage European side, Austria, in a friendly match before the 2026 FIFA World Cup gets underway.
This new development was revealed by the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum.
“Austria is one of the teams we are talking to to play after the Germany friendly game, and hopefully, when the contract is signed, we will make it official to the public,” he hinted in an interview with the media.

In their quest to prepare a stronger side that can compete fervently with their Group I counterparts in Canada and USA, authorities of Ghana Football are moving up and down to arrange proper trial matches for the Black Stars.
Coach Otto Addo and his team did not participate in the just ended 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which was won by Senegal.
Many believed the tournament would have been a perfect preparatory grounds for the Black Stars as they gear up for their fifth World Cup.
That is why President Kurt Okraku together with his GFA team likewise the Black Stars management committee and technical staff are working extremely hard to put the team into great shape.

Already, a deal has been secured to play former FIFA World Cup Champions Germany in March 2026. It is also in the pipeline to play Austria after the Germany – Ghana clash.
The Black Stars are billed to play Panama, England and Croatia in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup later in June – July.
