“Lower your expectations” – Bashir Hayford tells Medeama, Dreams FC ahead of African campaign

Bashir Hayford, the former coach of Asante Kotoko, has advised Medeama Sporting Club and Dreams FC to manage their expectations as they gear up for the upcoming CAF inter-club competition.
Following their triumph in the Ghana Premier League, Medeama will be representing Ghana in the CAF Champions League, while Dreams FC, winners of the MTN FA Cup, will be competing in the CAF Confederations Cup. The draw has pitted Medeama against West African counterparts Remo Stars, while Dreams FC will face off against Guinean side Milo FC de Kankan.
Speaking about the chances of the Ghanaian representatives in Africa, Hayford urged both teams to learn from the underwhelming performances of past Ghanaian clubs and to adequately prepare for the competition.
“The results of the clubs who previously represented Ghana should be a wake-up call to Medeama SC and Dreams FC. This should even be an advise to them,” Coach Bashiru Hayford told Mothers FM.
“Our clubs perform poorly in Africa. Some were even eliminated from the preliminary round (just after two games).
“They should put things in place and prepare well. It will be good for them to beef up their squad. If they want to perform well then they should start scouting players in Africa like other African clubs,” he divulged.
Hayford emphasized that both teams should manage their expectations, as their opponents possess quality in their squads. He urged them to prioritize building a foundation of quality from the outset to improve their performances in the competition.
“They should lower their expectations because their opponents are having the qualities. How do we build the quality? We build quality from the start. They should lower their expectations for the competition,” he concluded.
In summary, Bashiru Hayford cautioned Medeama SC and Dreams FC to be realistic in their expectations for the CAF inter-club competition, learn from past mistakes of Ghanaian clubs, and put in the necessary effort to prepare and improve their squads for a better showing in the tournament.
