Asante Kotoko pull out of GHALCA top four tournament

Asante Kotoko has officially withdrawn from the upcoming GHALCA top four tournament, scheduled to kick off early next month.
The decision comes as a result of recent events involving the club, including the dissolution of the board and other urgent issues that need their immediate attention to prepare for the upcoming season.
Despite qualifying for the tournament as one of the top four teams in the 2022-23 Ghana Premier League, Asante Kotoko has chosen to prioritize resolving their internal matters over participating in the competition.
The GHALCA Top 4 tournament, which features Medeama SC, Aduana Stars, Bechem United, and now-excluded Asante Kotoko, will take place from 6th August 2023 to 13th August 2023.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi will host the exciting event, showcasing top-tier football talent from the participating teams.
GHALCA President Kudjoe Fianoo confirmed Asante Kotoko’s withdrawal and acknowledged that the decision was genuine, considering the club’s current situation. The association has accepted their request and looks forward to a successful tournament with the remaining participating teams.
“Yes, it is no more a rumour, we received an official letter from Kotoko yesterday which stated that they can’t participate in the tournament,” he told Akoma FM.
“And as we are all aware of the current situation of Kotoko, it’s not a deliberate decision to sabotage the tournament but a genuine one and we have accepted their request,”
