Hearts of Oak board set up committee to investigate players over match-fixing allegations

Hearts of Oak is set to launch an inquiry into allegations of bribery that have emerged regarding the team’s activities during the recently concluded 2022/23 season.
In order to address concerns surrounding the integrity of the game, the Board of Directors at Hearts of Oak has taken proactive steps by establishing a committee specifically dedicated to investigating the validity of these allegations.
The allegations revolve around suspicions that certain players from Hearts of Oak were involved in a manipulated match during the previous season, raising questions about the fairness and spirit of the sport.
Acknowledging the seriousness of the allegations, the Board of Directors has acted swiftly and decisively to tackle the issue head-on.
Sources close to the matter have revealed that the committee’s inaugural meeting is scheduled to take place on Monday at the World Trade Centre in Accra, on the 14th floor.
Comprised of esteemed individuals, the committee’s primary objective is to summon both witnesses and suspects involved, enabling them to provide their testimonies regarding the alleged bribery scandal.
It is important to note that Hearts of Oak concluded the Ghana Premier League season in 12th place with 46 points, narrowly avoiding relegation by a single point on the final day.
The team’s lackluster performance has resulted in discontent among players and supporters alike.
To ensure a thorough investigation, the committee will be led by two prominent Board Members, Justice Ivy Heward Mills and Dr. Nyaho Tama. They will be supported by a senior official from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) as well as two legal professionals.
The committee’s main objective is to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the bribery allegations, seeking to uncover the truth behind these claims. Hearts of Oak remains committed to upholding the integrity of the game and preserving the principles of fair play.
