Ashgold boss Thomas Duah explains why Hearts, Kotoko players don't get national team invitations

In an interview with Akoma FM, Thomas Duah, the head coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, shared his perspective on why players from Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are not being called up to the Black Stars.

According to Duah, the root cause is that these two teams no longer have quality players due to poor recruitment.

He noted that most of their new signings are free agents who are not exceptional, unlike in the past when the two clubs were known for attracting the best local talent.

Duah also agreed that the low quality of players in these teams has affected their national team call-ups.

“The poor recruitment by Kotoko and Hearts has accounted for their abysmal performance in the league.

“Most of their new signings are free agents who are not exceptional in any way unlike what they used to do in times past,” Coach Thomas Duah said.

The Ashanti Gold SC coach added, “I agree with the assertion that these two teams lack quality. Their low quality has affected their call-ups into the national teams.

“Gone were the days when Kotoko and Hearts became the destination for most of the known quality players in the local scene, now the situation is entirely different.”

With Ghana set to compete in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month, it is uncertain whether coach Chris Hughton will give opportunities to players from the local league.
