Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer and football legend, has called on fans to support Inaki Williams after the Athletic Bilbao forward failed to score in his debut game for Ghana during the matchday three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola.
Despite being substituted in the second half, Gyan urged fans to be patient with Williams, as the forward needs a goal to boost his confidence.
“It’s very difficult to adjust to the African game, He has played in Europe all his life,” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.
“We need to give him more opportunities, he is improving even though he hasn’t found his feet yet but I’m sure his first goal will open the floodgates and many more will follow.
“His first goal will boost his confidence level. Let’s keep supporting him,” he added.
Ghana won the game 1-0, with Antoine Semenyo scoring the only goal.
With 7 points, Ghana now tops Group E and will play against Angola again in the matchday four game on Monday, March 27, as they seek to end their 4-year Afcon trophy drought.
