Ghana grab slim win over minnows Nicaragua in pre-World Cup friendly

Ghana made heavy work of beating minnow Nicaragua 1-0 in an international friendly to wrap up their September preparations for the upcoming 2022 Fifa World Cup set to take place in under two months’ time.

But Ghana could only manage a solitary goal victory despite a dominant performance at Estadio Francisco Artés Carrasco in Lorca, Spain.

Teenager Fatawu Issahaku netted the only goal of the game 10 minutes before halftime with a rasping left-footed shot from outside the penalty area.

The Black Stars, who will take on Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in Group H at the World Cup finals, wasted a plethora of chances in an unconvincing performance against the central American nation, who are 79 places behind them in the Fifa rankings.

Ghana will have one more friendly before the World Cup, against Switzerland in Abu Dhabi on November 17, one week before their opening game against Portugal in Doha.
