‘Match-fixing verdict delayed by scope of investigation’ – GFA

1 min read

The Ghana FA claims the scope of investigations into the alleged match-fixing case involving AshantiGold SC and Inter Allies has accounted for the Disciplinary Committee’s delay in announcing the verdict.

Hashmin Musah, a former defender of Inter Allies who was a second half substitute, intentionally scored two own goals as his side suffered a 0-7 defeat at AshantiGold on 17 July, 2021.

Musah later explained his decision to score the own goals in last season’s Ghana Premier League match-day 34 fixture, stating his intention was to foil what he suspected to be a fixed 5-0 scoreline.

In September 2021, the GFA Prosecutor charged AshantiGold and Inter Allies on counts of misconduct for match manipulation after studying the video footage of the game and reports by the Match Commissioner and the Referee.

Though the GFA hasn’t officially involved the Ghana Police Service in the investigation process, players and officials charged with misconduct have appeared before the GFA Disciplinary Committee for questioning.

“The Disciplinary Committee has met every member of AshGold and Inter Allies, who has been charged. I have seen Dr. Kwaku Frimpong at the GFA on four occasions. The GFA isn’t protecting anyone but, the scope of the investigation is the reason the verdict has delayed,” GFA Spokesman Henry Asante Twum told Accra based Happy FM.
